Godly Counsel ...The only Kind

“God’s wisdom is shown to be true by all who accept it.” Luke 7:35
“If you need wisdom – if you want to know what God wants you to do – ask Him, and He will be glad to tell you.”

Verse 6 goes on to say “But when you ask Him be sure that you really expect an answer.” (New Living Translation)



Though our world is far different than it used to be, our need for wisdom to cope with life has not changed.

King Solomon, from Old Testament times, wrote the book of Proverbs addressing these and other issues. The book begins, "The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, for doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young" (Prov. 1:1-4).

Yet, the proverbs themselves are not the ultimate source of wisdom and Solomon knew that full well as it goes on to say, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge."

Though our world is far different than it used to be, our source of wisdom has not changed.

"For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding" (Prov. 2:6).

"Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!" (Rom. 11:33)
Though our world is far different than it used to be, our means of acquiring God's wisdom has not changed.

"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him" (James 1:5).

Ask for it verbally in prayer,
but also ask by seeking it in His Word.

Though our world is far different than it used to be, our prime example of wisdom has not changed.

"By wisdom the Lord laid the earth's foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place" (Prov. 3:19).

This is the One who wants to show us the way, giving us spiritual wisdom that affects everyday living. So, "trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Prov. 3:5-6).
